Trump says ’1917’ Spanish flu ’probably ended Second World War’

President Trump recently stated that the Spanish Flu ’probably ended the Second World War’. However, the War started nearly two decades after the flu ended. ’Probably ended the Second World War. All the soldiers were sick’, he said.

So he slipped and said 'Second' instead of 'First'. This gets its own headline and ridicule while Biden's weekly racist comments get swept under the rug? Top notch reporting there.

Assuming he meant World War I. In that case Trump is incorrect. The Spanish Flu did not play a significant role in the ending of WWI. In fact rumors about the flu were surpressed for fear that it would lower morale among the troops. The pandemic was a result of terrible timing because it started to become widely known at just about the time soldiers were returning home from the war (including British and French colonial troops) thus bringing the virus back to their hometowns.
