China’s Confucius Institute declared as a foreign mission of Beijing

Accusing China’s Confucius Institute of being an engine for Chinese propaganda efforts in the US, the State Department designated the Institute a foreign mission of Beijing. Mike Pompeo, the Secretary of State said that the Confucius Institute U.S. Center is working to expand the Chinese Communist Party’s ’global influence’. The Institute’s branches have long irked China hawks in Washington.
