Team of ministry officials to be sent by Japan to assist in oil spill

A team of environment ministry officials and specialists are set to be sent to Mauritius by Japan according to Japanese Environment Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, in order to respond to the oil spill. About 1,000 tons of oil was spilt into the Indian Ocean after a Japanese bulk carrier struck a coral reef off Mauritius. The accident is being termed as being the country’s worst ecological disaster.

Holy fu... I've never seen a tanker do that. Is it from the opening to COD? This is a real lesson in not leaving this stuff until it's too outright dangerous to do anything. Anyone on the deck now would have to be tied to a helicopter ready for yanking out if it breaks up, and I really don't think oil tanker crews are prepared to go all Navy Seals on that thing. What an absolute mess.
