Afghan womens’ rights activist survives assassination attempt

Officials in Afghanistan reported an assassination attempt on a woman involved in negotiations between the Taliban and the government to broker a peace deal after 19 years of war. Fawzia Koofi, a womens’ rights activist, who is a strong critic of the Taliban, was at a market with her sister when the attack took place. Ms. Koofi suffered ’minor injuries’ in the attack, officials said.
