Belarus president rejects calls to rerun contested election after mass protests

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has rejected any possibility of repeating the vote that gave him a 6th term saying that his country would ’perish as a state’ if the election were rerun. Lashing out at the West for their call for rerun, Lukashenko on Sunday claimed that Western powers were amassing troops along the country’s borders.

This is exactly why it’s imperative to have permanent term limits. If you don’t like the bloke, at least you won’t have to *usually* live with him as president indefinitely. In cases such as China, term limits don’t matter if they are simply removed. President Xi Jinping was supposed serve only two terms, but he removed term limits in 2018.
