New Zealand delays national elections by four weeks amid Covid-19 outbreak

New Zealand’s general election has been delayed by four weeks, the country’s prime minister has announced. The election had been scheduled for Sept. 19 but will now be held on Oct. 17.Opposition parties had sought a delay after the virus outbreak prompted the government last week to put Auckland under a two-week lockdown and halted election campaigning.

It’s amazing what a virtue signalling political charlatan can get away with. It must be hugely challenging to manage a virus in an isolated, sparsely populated island nation with less than 5 million people and no major air or sea hub.
