Earthly bacteria survives for years in space

As per a a new study in Frontiers in Microbiology, a type of bacteria has been identified that can survive in space all on its own, and for extended periods of time. The Deinococcus bacteria were exposed to the intense radiation and cold of space for three years. And it survived. The Japanese mission installed samples of the bacteria in ’exposure panels’ on the outside of the ISS.
