Magnitude 6.8 earthquake hits Chile’s northern coast causing marginal damage

A strong earthquake hit the coast of northern Chile on Tuesday, causing marginal damage and landslides. The US Geological Survey recorded the magnitude of 6.8 for the earthquake which struck just after midnight at a depth of 14 miles. The epicenter was 48 miles northeast of the Atacama city of Vallenar. An aftershock was also reported having a preliminary magnitude of 6.3.
