For the first time since 1946, US debt set to exceed size of its economy

The United States Congressional Budget Office said the federal budget deficit for 2020 fiscal will hit $3.3 trillion. It means the federal debt held by the public is set to reach or exceed 100% of the US gross domestic product. This is seen as a result of the country’s huge fiscal response to the coronavirus pandemic. The last time the US debt exceeded its GDP was in 1946, when it stood at 106%.
