Oil supertanker on fire off Sri Lanka coast, one dead

Firefighters from Sri Lanka and India are battling to put out a large blaze aboard an oil supertanker, off the coast of the island nation. The Sri Lankan navy said one Filipino crew member died after a boiler in the tanker’s main engine room exploded, causing the fire on Thursday. The other 22 crew members have been rescued from the ship, which is reportedly carrying 270,000 metric tons of crude.
