Jane Fraser to replace Corbat as Citi CEO, first woman to lead a major U.S. bank

Citigroup announced that Jane Fraser would replace Michael Corbat as the bank’s CEO thus making Fraser the first woman to lead a major U.S. bank. Fraser is presently head of Citi’s global consumer banking division and has spent 16 years with Citi. Corbat led Citigroup for eight years, as he rebuilt the company after it nearly collapsed during the 2008 financial crisis and Great Recession.

The comments making fun of the (supposedly left-wing) media and NV for focusing on her gender are silly and self-righteous. Presumably, for Citigroup, her qualifications were much more salient than her gender. However, banks change CEOs with some regularity and presumably all of them are well qualified. What makes this newsworthy is that after a streak of hundreds of CEOs who were ALL male, a woman was finally selected. And the sources include Zero hedge and the NY Post which are hardly progressive.
