Amazon backs marijuana legalization, drops weed testing for some jobs

Amazon has thrown its weight behind federal legislation to legalize marijuana. In a blog post, Amazon said it supports the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act. The MORE Act would decriminalize cannabis at the federal level. The company added that it will no longer include marijuana in its drug screening program for any positions not regulated by the Department of Transportation.

How does it make any sense for a corporation to be "backing" social issues that have nothing to do with its actual business? Considering the shareholders actually own the business, seems like they should get a lot more of a say on this sort of social activism. Would rejecting all board members in the next annual meeting send enough of a message?

In other words, Amazon wants to sell weed. For them to do that, it needs to be legalized.

Stfu Jason. You do know that a lot of conservatives approve of legalization. That's just one of the tenants of a small federal government. Jump off of a cliff collectivist.

These tests can't tell if someone is sober or not at work. They test for metabolites, this is a non intoxicating substance that the actual intoxicant has broken into. There's nothing illegal about them. If I could, I could buy a giant bag of whatever metabolites would give you a positive test, this is because there's nothing illegal about them. The goal of these tests is to ensure people are sober at work. This is very important for everyone's safety. Yet the very test we use drug screens have nothing to do with is this person sober or not. Making them a clear violation of our Fourth amendment right to search and seizure. You're seizing my body fluids checking for something that is not intoxicating nor illegal. The biggest culprit of these fake tests is of course THC because it is fat soluble. Here's an example of how a drug test is such an epic failure. Joe blow doesn't use marijuana and hasn't in over 10 years, he meets up with people and smokes marijuana and gets very intoxicated and gets into an automobile accident. If they did a urine test on him it would come back negative unless this test was taken 10 hours or more later. This is because intoxicated people without metabolites in their system from last week's usage will come back clean up to 12 hours after their use. But the next morning when this individual is completely sober now he will test positive, will continue to test positive for 3 Days To 2 weeks even though this person is totally sober. Let's wake up.

Great way to distract everyone from the fact he's an inhumane corporate snake. Still, I'll take that as a win for full legalization.

I watched a documentary on opioid addiction that best explains mlwhy they most likely have relaxed the testing. The plant manager being interviewed in the film explained that in the region it had become increasingly difficult to find workers who could pass the drug test as most were testing positive for opioids. I'm sure it's similar for Amazon, it's hard to find enough people within a rural region who can actually do the work who don't smoke a little weed. They need the workers
