Air quality as bad as smoking 20 packs of cigarettes as wildfires rage

Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California said that air quality had deteriorated to an equivalent of ’smoking 20 packs of cigarettes’, as wildfires rage across the West Coast. The fires have charred more than 3.2 million acres, and demolished 4,000 structures in the state. Nearly 33 people have died across California, Oregon and Washington. California alone accounts for 22 of these deaths.
