Rare dolphins make a comeback in Hong Kong as Covid-19 reduces ferry traffic

Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, also known as Chinese white dolphins and pink dolphins, are returning to Pearl River Delta in Hong Kong as the Covid-19 crisis shut down high-speed ferries between Hong Kong and Macau. Researchers say dolphin numbers in the area have risen by 30% since March. Now, they are calling for protections before the ferries resume.

Researchers are "calling for protections before the ferries resume." Not going to happen, most probably. Decisions will be made based on economics, not wildlife conservation. Of course, in an ideal world, we could have had dolphins and humans co-existing peacefully. But then, we do not live in an ideal world.
