Bellwether moment for autonomous driving technology. If this suit goes to trial and the driver is in any way found guilty, even a plea deal, this will kill commercial use of future autonomous driving technology. No driver will ever want his freedom and future in the hands of possible software or hardware malfunctions. This should have been put on the manufacturers of the technology. The reason they didn't is because if the manufacturers don't suffer the repercussions of their failures then the manufacturers will continue to develop the tech, but it will never be adopted if drivers suffer from the inevitable failures in the systems. The idea of leaving something like driving with massive negative consequences in the hands of fallible human inventions is asinine and dangerous.
