India coronavirus cases cross 5 million, death toll mounts to over 82,000

The Covid-19 pandemic is raging unabated in India, the second-most populous country in the world. It saw a sharp rise in the number of infections with the last million coming in just 11 days – a world record. It has now recorded over 5.02 million infections and 80,066 deaths. India imposed a long nationwide lockdown and upped its testing many times since the outbreak, the situation has worsened.

In a country of 1. 38 BILLION people that isn't many cases and accurate death recording is generally absent in even the most developed countries. So this looks like another load of sensationalist headlines to me.

They'll be the world's leader in cases and mortality only because China isn't truthful. In the end, Covid #s will reflect population, and population density. Places that have not have significant transmissions remain potential places of outbreak. And places that have had significant outbreaks are less likely to have new rapid spread. That's good news
