In Colombia, indigenous activists pull down statue of 16-century conquistador

Angry protesters from the Misak community in Colombia have pulled down and decapitated a statue of Spanish conquistador Sebastian de Belalcazar. The large equestrian statue stood on a hill near the western town of Popayan. Activists said Belalcazar was responsible for the ’genocide’ of the local population. Police were present when the statue was toppled, but they didn’t interfere.

Ok so by removing the statue your trying to remove that history of your people simply because you didnt like what happened. If anything you should have used it as a way to educate your youth and give them physical proof of what occurred. You cannot change what happened. Nor can you forget, but what you can do is let later generations have the opportunity to not repeat the same mistakes.
