Israel decides for a second nationwide lockdown as Covid-19 cases surge

Israel has decided for a second lockdown to curb surging Covid-19 cases. Under the new three-week lockdown, citizens must stay within 1km of their homes, with exceptions, and the number of people allowed in synagogues has been reduced. In the past week, new cases have touched daily highs of more than 6,000 cases and total deaths stood at 1,169 while total cases stood at ~177,000.

If their medical system is being overloaded then maybe this is a good move. Generally speaking lockdowns do not prevent a single infection they just delay them.

I disagree with lockdowns on an economical front but help me figure this out by way of common sense. If there is a lockdown in place, the contact between an infected person and a normal person is reduced to the point of null. While the infected person may recover or die, they are not infecting another person who is normal. This limits more people being infected and more people dying. That's the sole logic of it right? To reduce the chances?
