McCook Police Chief indicted on federal extortion charges

Police Chief Mario DePasquale of McCook, IL has been indicted on federal extortion charges. The case is the same in which former McCook Mayor Jeffrey Tobolski is involved. Prosecutors said the two worked together to shake down a restaurant owner who needed city approval to serve alcohol. DePasquale is charged with extortion, conspiracy to commit extortion and attempted extortion.

Corruption in the state of Illinois? No way. With such paragons of virtue, like Chicago, I would have thought that crime couldn't exist in that state. However, I am surprised that they're being prosecuted at all.
