First time buyers may be squeezed out of the market due to US housing shortage

With demand in the US housing market surging, affordability is set to become an issue for many prospective first time buyers, with the number of homes for sale lagging. Existing home sales registered their highest level since December 2006 in August, and marked a 2.4% increase from July to an annualized rate of 6 million. Sales are up more than 10% year over year.
