Democrats preparing bill to limit Supreme Court judges’ terms to 18 years

As President Donald Trump prepares to announce a candidate to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat, Democrats are planning to introduce legislation that would limit the term of a Supreme Court judge to 18 years. Rep. Ro Khanna is the lead sponsor of the bill, which is expected to be tabled next week. He said it was important to ensure all presidents have ’an equal chance to appoint justices.’

I'm fine with an 18 year term limit, though depending on the interpretation of Article III, it may require an Amendment. I disagree with the limit on the number of appointees a president gets per term. If the Court has an opening, why shouldn't it get filled? It was obviously created specifically for this president, which seems petty. Since we're talking about establishing term limits, it seems like this is a perfect time to establish them for the House and Senate. How about 12 years? Congress was never supposed to be a full time career. Maybe the country would function as it was intended, then.
