Rat awarded gold medal for mine-detecting work in Cambodia

Magawa, a male African giant pouched rat, has won fame and fans for – what is described as – ’life-saving work’ in Cambodia, where he detected 39 landmines and 28 other live explosives in a span of seven years. UK-based veterinary charity PDSA, recognizing Magawa’s work, awarded the rat with a gold medal ’for animal gallantry or devotion to duty.’

Rats do not understand the symbolism of gold as a reward. They should have awarded him something rats enjoy like booze, expensive chocolate, or bag of cocaine
