Man, who fought California wildfires as an inmate, sent to ICE for deportation

After spending 22 years in prison serving a sentence for a robbery case from his adolescence, Kao Saelee, upon his release on Aug. 6 was placed into US ICE custody and flown to a jail in Louisiana. Saelee now faces deportation to Laos, a country his family fled as refugees when he was two years old. During his sentence, Saelee served as an incarcerated firefighter, battling many wildfires.

There has to be a moral question that one has to ask of themselves. This man - a prisoner but still a person - who served as a firefighter and probably helped in the effort to save lives is now being thrown out like he doesn't matter. Yes, he has a robbery sentence and he is serving it in full and paying the dues for his crime. But what is the moral code that we are abiding to by not giving him a chance at staying in the country?
