Prosecutors want Capitol rioters to pay for damage in exchange for plea deals

Prosecutors said the deadly Capital attack caused $1.5M in damages and indicated that individuals accused of rioting will be asked to foot the bill. The DOJ disclosed the figure in a letter to a lawyer for Paul Hodgkins, a Florida man who pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing an official proceeding. Hodgkins’ plea agreement calls for him to ’pay restitution to the Department of Treasury.’

What about BLM and Antifa? Are they going to pay for the damage they caused as well . Was a hell of a lot more then 1.5 million.

There some misleading fake news here "prosecutors after the deadly riots". The rioters didn't have any guns and didn't kill anyone. Capitol police killed a women by shooting her in the neck. Had she been a black male, there would be outrage on the Left.

You break it, you buy it. They need to prove each person broke what they are charged for, though. Many were just sight-seers on a self guided tour.

Yeah they can pay - after the 5 billion dollars worth of damage from the racist BLM terrorists pay their bill first.

They go after the money, the only money on the left side comes from unaccountable billionaires. If an investigation was started into pallets of bricks showing up, the trail would end at untouchables. So they don't even pursue it.

This was an insurrection, and caused $1,500,000 in damage!?!?! Democrats run cities caused multiple $1,000,000,000 of damages from burning and looting but that was just a protest. Federal Courthouses and Federal Offices attacked but that was just a protest?!?!? Doesn’t anyone else see cover up, malarkey, bs, full of crap, lying MSM hypocrisy going on or is this Trump Derangement Syndrome on steroids!

Well I want BLM and anti-fa to pay for the damage they did to American cities and citizens. If we don't get that why do you think you deserve anything? They caused millions in property damage and destroyed what was left of the business that were barely surviving the shutdown. The capital people in comparison probably only caused damage that would be covered by insurance ie. a few windows, doors, desks, etc. Anyone who knows any other damage done please comment but I doubt it will equal in the millions. That being said a worse crime doesn't erase a less serious crime.

When are we going to ask BLM/ANTIFA terrorists to pay the billions of damages they have caused?

Sounds like great precedent, if it's properly allocated. Little old lady walked between the velvet ropes and stared around, no charge. Twenty-something broke molding off a door with a crowbar, she gets to find out how expensive restoring historical woodwork is. Thirty-five year old got boot marks on Senate seats while counting how many zip ties he had, send him the cleaning bill. Can they prove and accurately assign a charge to every rioter? Maybe not, but isn't the point to deter future recurrence? If tradition and respect, rule of law, and threat of arrest won't stop them, maybe hearing about how their buddy is still paying for the cleaning bill will.

Didn't Kamala Harris want people to donate to the Minnesota Freedom Fund? Okay it was via ActBlue which is just a funnel for putting money into the DNC but if those rioters are getting help I guess she'll be promoting something similar here, no?

All these geniuses here comparing what happened at our US capital to BLM riots act as though they're the same. These are the same people that just love to fly our flag, wear t-shirts with our flag on them and then say that the terrorists at our capitol are just protestors, give me a break.

I'm for equal treatment under the law. It seems like this protest and it's participants have not been treated equally to other protests and protestors outside of this event. Why? Why should that be tolerated?
