Maryland man sentenced to year in jail for holding huge parties during pandemic

A Maryland man was sentenced to one year in jail for throwing two large parties that violated the state’s COVID-19 gathering orders. Shawn Marshall Myers, 42, was caught throwing parties in March after Gov. Larry Hogan issued orders against gatherings of more than 10 people to help fight the spread of COVID-19. Myers was convicted on two counts of failure to comply with an emergency order.

Congrats Maryland, freeing murders, rapist, and other felons just to put people who gather in groups more than 10 in jail. Governors have used this pandemic as an excuse to become dictators and remove freedoms guaranteed by the constitution. This is a very bad precedent to set.

This sounds more like florida news, and the guy even looks like a Florida man. Also just incase the collective US government is reading this comment: PLEASE let the people host parties on a private property.

Appeals court will have a field day with this absolutely unconstitutional ruling. Disbarring all judges and prosecution involved should not be ruled out. You don't get to practice law and completely ignore the letter of the law simultaneously.

I want to know who the judge is that upheld this ruling. Was it a jury decision? None of the articles give any of that information.

This is a power never meant to be held by a single elected official. This is some old west, corrupt sharrif shit. Did this guy force anyone to come party? Did he kidnap minors and make them have a good time? This opens the door for ANY host of ANY kind be held responsible for patrons. More laws = less justice

The only reason he shoukd go to jail is if someone contracted covid due to his party. If not then I dont see a crime and even in that case it would be negligence. This man is protected under the constitution and will be released.

Wait no no don't tell me; he is a firm believer in Trump and that covid-19 is a hoax perpetrated by Microsoft?

What happened to the Trumpets being the law and order party, he broke the law, got punished for it. If it's unjust he can appeal it and win.

I don’t think he should go to jail. He should be given the option to volunteer for 6 months in a local hospital where they house covid patients.

What a horrible, selfish person. Imagine only thinking about yourself. America first! Individuals whom think they're above the law are annoying. As if the entire country is theirs because they want a party.
