Scientists surprised by Africa’s low fatality rates from pandemic

In April, a UN agency warned that COVID-19 could kill 300K people in Africa this year. The WHO warned that 190K people on the continent could die if containment measures failed. Currently, with over 1.47M cases recorded, Africa has seen 35,568 deaths, a far lower fatality rate than expected. Experts cite factors, including a young population and lessons learned from previous disease outbreaks.

Nevermind the fact that malaria is common in those countries and most people regularly take hydrochloroquine. That has NOTHING to do with it. Facebook and YouTube say that stuff is bad and they always tell the truth, right?

The population distribution in a lot of African countries isn't old enough to die from the virus at a high rate. Gee I wonder why they are not reporting a problem.

No old people and shitty infrastructure for reporting statistics is probably a big chunk of it

Yeah, it's a real head-scratcher. The Median Age in Africa is 19 yrs old. It's almost like much of Africa culls out people by other means before they can reach the most At-Risk category for COVID deaths.

Give them a damn break! I realize many like to harp that Africa isn't as wealthy or as powerful as the other continents, but perhaps they are a bit more capable then everyone else likes to say! Or they are unable or just underreporting the death figures. Either because they are under equipped to report accurately or they are pulling a China. Anything mentioned here could be true, decide for yourselves.

Their hospitals didn't get the memo explaining how to misreport the cause of death.

Odd.. The virus was engineered to mostly hit Caucasians, but they didn't expect that African people would benefit as well. They'll have to go back to the lab and work on that!

I'd imagine Africans probably have good immune systems because they aren't stuck indoors bleaching every surface all day inbetween sucking microplastic-saturated water out of plastic bottles. Plus sunlight = vitamin d, and vitamin d = healthy immune system.

Yeah, when you take this stuff seriously, fewer people die. Here in my town people are sticking their noses out of their masks, like masks are just some sort of political statement. I asked the sheriff if I could waste their time with these freaks, and he said yes. He's eager to see them charged with bio terrorism.
