Manchin to vote against election overhaul bill

Sen. Manchin defended his decision to vote against a sweeping voting rights bill and reiterated opposition to gutting the filibuster. ’Partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening binds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For the People Act,’ he said. Manchin’s opposition to changing filibuster rules is as a roadblock to Biden’s legislative priorities.

I respect him and others who are not beholden to a party. All politicians should act independent of party affiliation. In fact, get rid of the two parties altogether and we might actually survive as a nation and revive the freedom and democracy that were intended by our nation’s founders.

They say the left cannot meme, but the way they name their bills shows a sublime and razor sharp wit. How else can you explain the perfect assymetry between the name of most Dem bills being exactly the opposite of what they do.

So, Joe Manchin is in favor of continued gerrymandering and voter suppression efforts by his "Republican colleagues". He would rather see our democratic institutions reduced to rubble than strengthen them. Remember that when his seat is up for re-election. History will not judge people like him and Krysten Sinema favorably.

This man is a profile in courage and integrity. The idea that anyone could support a bill that reduces election credibility and increases fraud is stunning... Until you realize that's the only way the Democrats have left to win, since they've abandoned trying to convince anyone by presenting rational argument and empirical evidence.

Good job Senator way to stand against the pressure of the far left trying to dismantle our constitutional republic. I pray you will continue to hold the line. You would think the party of racism, slavery, lies and hoaxes would eventually stop telling lies and showing their racist ways. Give up the lie of “their are suppressing voters rights”. But it’s so much easier for people to vote than it was before 2020. ID requirement is supported by overwhelming majority’s among white black and Hispanic voters. Just tell the truth that y’all want to continue to push towards an authoritarian regime by federalizing elections. How can anyone be ok with that. States run their own elections as it was intended. It seems nobody hates America more than Americans.

What happened to the AOC/Matt Walsh story from yesterday 6/5??? Been looking for it all over the site and it’s just gone. Did Newsvoice take it down because it showed AOC embarrassing herself? Is this an unfiltered news app or not. Anybody with info on this please post. Thanks

Primary this guy and Sinema. The GOP has made it clear they don’t give two shits about playing by the rules nor democracy, in general.

What a complete clown 🤡. Then I love how the cultists says, oh ai do''t agree with him but at least he has principles even though you would NEVER say the same thing about a Republican like Cheney simply stating that the election was''t stolen 🤦‍♂️🤣

Ah yes, the filibuster that can be used to stop the passing of bills that a majority of Americans support. Democrats and Republicans

It’s good there are some sane democrats. We should all be grateful for Manchin’s stance today.

It's not like him caving to Republicans is going to get him any support. If there was any Republican running for his seat, with the exact same positions as him, the Republican would win because of the R. All he does is alienate himself from pretty much everyone, as well as allow the status quo to continue its bloody march.

Isn't it partisan to vote against the bill as much as it is partisan to support it? Every decision is partisan, to vote against this bill is to support the voter exclusion laws being passed in multiple states. Don't get me wrong I'm all for voter identification, but only in a way that includes all legal voters equally, meaning equal access to voting.

I identity more with Democrats. Now I know how it felt to be a Republican when Senator Mitt Romney and others blocked tens of legislation during the Trump administration. I think both parties can agree at this point that The Senate is BROKEN and DYSFUNCTIONAL and is incapable of fulfilling its purpose as a chamber ment to deliberate and refine bills.
