Scientists report substantial progress towards fusion reactor

Scientists developing a compact version of a nuclear fusion reactor have published a series of research papers indicating substantial progress towards a working fusion reactor. Construction of a working reactor, called SPARC, which is being developed at MIT and a spinoff company, Commonwealth Fusion Systems, is expected to begin next spring and take three or four years, company officials said.
