Trump claims his policies made insulin ’so cheap, it’s like water’

President Trump, stressing on his work around lowered drug prices, claimed during Tuesday’s debate that he has helped lower the price of insulin to such a level that it’s ’like water’. In reality, insulin retails for ~$300 a vial, with most patients requiring two to three vials per month. Trump also suggested that drug prices ’will be coming down 80 or 90 percent’ under his leadership.

Seriously! I have no idea what this costs but if like the article says it costs 300$ a vial and patient needs 2-3 vials, how can such a claim be justified. I don't know if he meant some branded water he must be using. Or was the cost of this vial way higher earlier. As I read it: Unfortunately, insulin prices have risen dramatically over the past 10 years. Between 2012 and 2016, the price almost doubled, according to the Health Care Cost Institute. In 2012, the average cost of insulin per diabetes patient was $2,864 per year. By 2016, it had risen to $5,705. Today, one vial of insulin can cost $250, and some people need six vials per month. This even at 3 vials (half) translates to $9000 a year!!!!!!!
