Senate confirms Quraishi as first Muslim American federal judge in US history

The Senate on Thursday approved the nomination of Judge Zahid Quraishi to the District Court in New Jersey, making him the nation’s first Muslim-American federal judge. Quraishi received bipartisan backing from the upper chamber with its 81 to 16 vote to confirm him to the federal court in Trenton. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved his nomination with bipartisan support last week.

Here's the thing, if he's a devout muslim who believes in all of the tenants of Islam including sharia law this is bad because Islam is fundamentally incompatible with western law and ideology. However if he's an Americanized muslim that is practicing a semi reformed version of Islam and will separate Islamic ideologically from interpretation of the law then this means literally nothing other than that its a dude that got confirmed for an office, who cares. Again it comes down to how fundamental his religious views are and how much they're going to influence his interpretation of the law and if they'll be in conflict.

Did the Senators ask him if his muslim faith would affect his ability to be fair and impartial? Did they grill him on this and drag him thru the mud? Did they concoct sexual harassment and abuse charges? Did they berate and protest him because he has faith? No? That is the way democrats operate when vetting judges.

A Muslim has no more right to a judge seat than a Christian. Personally I think neither should be serving as federal judges as it is impossible to determine how much bias from their own religion they are dragging into their decisions. It's time we start electing Atheist candidates and confirming atheist judges. Religion is just too scary to be in charge of making decisions.

I'd rather him be the 1,000th church/mosque-state separation supporting judge in American history.

This is why separation of church and state is important. The last 20 years of judges appointment will (and already) have major impacts in this country. And it's not for the best, folks.
