Teen who filmed George Floyd murder given journalism award

The teen whose video documenting the murder of George Floyd helped galvanize a global movement over racial injustice has been awarded a special citation by the Pulitzer prizes board. Darnella Frazier was cited ’for courageously recording the murder of George Floyd, a video that spurred protests against police brutality, around the world,’ the Pulitzer board stated on Friday.

What was so "courageous" about standing there filming something (especially if you think you're filming one person killing another)?

Maybe pushing the cop off Floyd’s neck would have been courageous. Standing with an iPhone not so much.

Courageous ? Huh ? Courageous ? What exactly is it these people are trying to accomplish here . Courageous is the guy putting his store/ life back together after a bunch of thugs destroyed it . Now that's courageous . Virtue signaling at its finest.

It is extremely courageous and commendable for citizens to document the abuses of the state, doubly so when the civilian involved is a member of a group that disproportionately faces abuse at the hands of state actors.

I'm confused, so now this woman who recorded it is now problematic? Now we are insulting her as if she had negative intentions toward the conservative right? She recorded what she thought was excessive force by a police officer. She did nothing wrong and doesn't deserve these hateful comments toward her. She didn't ask to be given this award, they gave it to her.

Was she in on the plot? How much did she get paid for her courage?

The term "journalism" has been dead for a long time but this just drives the nail deeper

So, remind me again… what is so “courageous” about someone who just pulled out a camera and sat there recording as a man was unlawfully murdered? If she had actually fought the cop to save the man’s life, risking her own in the process, sure. But that wasn’t what happened.

To be fair, it was probably the most viewed and influential video clip of the year.

I think it’s crazy how many right wingers think a civilian should have stopped a cop from killing someone. Most right wingers get mad at a POC kneeling during a sporting event. How can POC protest to make white people happy? The Statue of Liberty should read “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. But if you come here make sure you appease white people and not inconvenience them.”

Wanna really be courageous? Film one of the many murders that happen in the democratic inner cities on a daily basis.
