Up to 150M could join extreme poor, World Bank says
The World Bank has said that up to 150M people could slip into extreme poverty, living on less than $1.90 a day, by late 2021 depending on how badly economies shrink during the COVID-19 pandemic. Middle income-countries, including India, Nigeria and Indonesia, are expected to have 82% of the new extreme poor. Global economic growth is expected to fall the fastest in the past eight decades.
