Spanish court strikes down federal COVID-19 lockdown
Madrid’s highest regional court Thursday struck down a lockdown imposed by the Spanish government on the capital region in order to contain Covid-19 infections, saying it violated residents’ ’fundamental rights and freedoms.’The court said the central government didn’t have the right to impose the lockdown — because responsibility for public health matters lies with Spain’s 17 autonomous regions.
