US school district strips all holiday names, students just have ’days off’

After an outcry over a previous decision to rename Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples Day, the board of education at a New Jersey school district decided to strip all holiday names off of the school calendar. Now, in Randolph Township, holidays will simply be called ’day off.’ ’If we don’t have anything on the calendar, we don’t have to have anyone be hurt feelings,’ a board member said.

I think we should just go ahead and burn all the history books that have ever been written, destroy the ozone with the smoke, melt the polar ice caps resulting in cataclysmic flooding and start over. Of course I'm being sarcastic (apparently there's a few of ya'll incapable of recognizing that). Truth is though, the absolute absurdity of today's world is frightening. We can debate left and right all day and its gettin us nowhere. I'm up for suggestions on how to fix this crap

By removing the names you defeat the whole point of having public holidays. As days of rememberance. So instead of offending a few you offend them all. Pathet!c.

Heaven forbid someone has hurt feelings. Maybe teach kids how to deal with hardships rather than avoiding. You are literally setting them up for failure in the real world

Remember when America was a country of liberty and freedoms. Pepperidge Farms remembered so the loony left burnt it down 😃

Honestly, that works. Next, instead of "___ Month", we can just get "July", "August", etc, again, though anti-Roman-Emperor-ists may still complain.

How about just not caving to the whining snowflakes who want to keep commemorating a guy that enslaved and massacred the Taino’s and set in motion the cultural and ethnic annihilation of tens of millions of native peoples and just hold firm on Indigenous People’s Day?

I like this ides. Simplifies the calendar for everyone. No need to remember which holiday is a day with school and which holiday is without school. It might not be the same in the US, but herr the students have to memorize this shit. Further, this leaves the students free to celebrate whatever.

This is still ridiculous... because in your attempt to offend no one... you end up offending everyone with stupidity in left field... what a rash decision

This idea seems so easy. The school just calls them days off, folks can call them whatever they want. Nobody wins but nobody loses, the art of compromise.

The hate in these comments is pretty crazy, I think it’s a good thing that they are stripped. As a person who grew up not having the same beliefs as everyone else in my New England town the days before a day off that had religious connotations there was always a celebration and while I would respectfully decline to engage and instead just partake in learning there would always be ridicule brought about with it and not just from students, in fact as I got older most of the torment would be brought about by teachers who were offended and knew a child couldn’t do much about it. Again I believe just having a day off and not having the school tied to any religious or political or anything otherwise is good, it allows for more academic growth and focus and then when the kids are with their families they can do whatever they want.

Make Columbus Day a national voting day. Why celebrate a racist colonizer whom discovered peoples whom were already here.

Dear liberals and leftists, we regret to inform you that it is not possible to sanitize the history of Western Society and bring it up to your current standards. Worse yet, assuming wisdom does not set in at some point along the way, someday a more “enlightened” people will be canceling your current attitudes, ideas, and behaviors since you will not meet up to their standards of “progress.” We humbly suggest you accept that the world will always be an imperfect place. You do not have to destroy the good in order to achieve the perfect. Your sanity might even depend on finding the good in things rather than canceling everything due it its shortcomings. Please stop committing cultural suicide. Sincerely, The Part of Western Society You Haven’t Canceled Yet.

Yeah Christopher did horrible things. But to use "feelings" as your reason. They are so subjective. When the 2 yr old wants the knife and you say no those tears are cuz he's hurt. Let him cry!

I thought I was reading a Babylon bee headline. How absurd. A country that disregards its history, traditions, and heroes is dead. There is nothing to bind people together.
