Top Slovakia far-right extremist jailed for 4 years over using neo-Nazi symbol
Marian Kotleba, the chief of a neo-fascist political party in Slovakia, has been jailed for over 4 years after being convicted of using illegal neo-Nazi symbols. He was found guilty spreading an anti-democracy ideology. Kotleba, headed the People’s Party Our Slovakia, was arrested after he gave 3 poor families with checks for €1,488 in 2017. The number 1,488 has a symbolic meaning for neo-Nazis.
For using a symbol
This is an extreme violation of speech freedoms. If a society fears nazism could spread to a majority then we have to rethink what democracy even means. In any case, nazi Germany did not have a majority of nazis. A minority of nazis seized control through peaceful means which could not happen in any modern democracy.

Not that I agree with nazis or fascists, because I don't, but I do disagree with imprisoning people for their ideology. That's a slippery slope. I wouldn't want communists imprisoned either. Its when extremists act on violent rhetoric that inhale a problem. Using a symbol is not that.
