Ikea to commence buy back scheme for used furniture in recycling push

Ikea next month will commence a buy back scheme under which it will buy back old furniture items and offer vouchers worth up to 50% of the original price, to be spent at its own stores. The ’Buy Back’ initiative will coincide with Black Friday. Ikea expects the initiative to help its customers take a stand against excessive consumption this Black Friday and in future years to come.

With the millions of companies randomly shouting about a push toward a "greener" world, leave it to the meatballs to actually do something helpful, even if it's basically the gamestop of furniture. I've seen enough couches, chairs, and tables on the side of the road to see how this would be helpful.

I worked for IKEA. They've had a buyback program for years. Most of that furniture is resold at a discount or harvested for parts. Some of it goes straight to the compactor.
