LA City Council mandates unarmed response teams for nonviolent 911 calls

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles City Council approved of the plan to add an ’unarmed crisis response team to the police department.’ The new teams will be trained in mental health, substance abuse and social service intervention. The measure passed on the 47th birthday of George Floyd. The council will be open to proposals from non-profit organizations to better the functioning of the same.
