Vanessa Guillen’s death ruled ’in the line of duty’

The death of Army Spc. Vanessa Guillen, who went missing from Fort Hood for weeks before her remains were found in July, has been ruled ’in the line of duty’. The determination grants Guillen’s bereaved family benefits for her service, besides final pay and allowances. Guillen’s death prompted a movement to fight sexual abuse and harassment in the military after family members allegations.

I’m glad ruling the death as “in the line of duty” allowed for some financial benefit to her grieving family, but it really is a gross mischaracterization of what happened. Work place violence/murder
