Trump grants clemency to 5 convicts jailed for nonviolent crimes

President Trump has pardoned 5 nonviolent offenders. The White House said they had turned their lives around after serving time. Among them, four were convicted on drug charges. Calling them ’model inmates who were handed disproportionately harsh sentences,’ White House aide Ja’Ron Smith tweeted: ’We will continue to work tirelessly to bring justice to those affected by Biden 1994 crime bill.’

Honestly, this is a political move as a hit against Biden, but I do want to start seeing more crime and prison reform (which Trump has actively worked towards). I want to start seeing people who serve their time getting their rights back, as punishment should end once the sentence finishes. I want to see a better system for reintroducing people into society once prison is finished (as its all to common to have no support beyond a bus ticket to somewhere). Hell, even the job set up seen in Shawshank Redemption is a better option than what’s being (largely) done right now.
