Court orders California to cut San Quentin jail inmates by half over Covid fears

A California appeals court has ordered the state to reduce the number of inmates locked up in the San Quentin prison by half because of Covid-19 outbreak in the jail complex. So far, the virus has infected 2,200 people and killed 28 in the prison, which houses some of California’s most dreaded and hardened convicts. Now, the state must release or move nearly 1,500 inmates from there.

Such a good idea. Let's dump a bunch of rapists and thieves back into society on mass. Definitely won't cause any problems.

I'm surprised that Gavin didn't let them all out before this lawsuit even got started.

Release them in downtown San Francisco, see if anyone notices.

Uhhh isn't jail a solid form of quarantine? Why release them? They are quarantined whether they like it or not. Our state leaders would rather law abiding citizens be quarantined but will allow criminals to be released over covid fears? Idiots running our local governments for sure

As if crime is up over 150% in these leftist nightmare areas you're going to let out some of the most heinous criminals from one of the top 3 worst prisons in the USA. HONK HONK 🤡🌎 to the max

IMO, these protesters would be granted their wise. Relase only violent criminals though. Murders, rapists, and the like. Merry Christmas morons

Idk how this is considered controversial. Keeping inmates in environments that will cause them to get sick and potentially die is inhumane. If there are prisoners who are either almost done with their sentence or are non-violent (or in for a stupid reason like drugs) then they should be released. Hell, if people don’t like that then they could get a tracker so they can quarantine at home.

This judge should be held responsible for any violence caused by these released felons.

If they are young the rusk is almost zero, probably they have already been exposed. Also when they get out they will not socially distance. Except they may sometimes wesr masks during crimes i suppose.

Something does not add up here: The population must be in unlawful lockdowns but convicts are supposed to be released from their lawful lockdowns?

tim 1 months

Just let them all out. Prison is no longer a deterrent from committing crimes. Probably better off then being homeless

I thought for just one second the headline said they were ordered to "cut inmates IN half...!" Lol

Have fun with your system, California.

Isn't it better that these folks only interact with one another, rather than everyone in the state? Genius!

There goes the neighborhood...

Why? If masks work just give them a mask ha

So.... it's best to release the sick inmates to the public?

Hopefully they won't send infected inmates to other states this time.
