Appeals court rules in favor of CA, Uber and Lyft drivers are employees

Uber and Lyft suffered a jolt as a California appeals court said that companies must reclassify their drivers as employees instead of being independent contractors. The state of California in Uber and Lyft in May saying they must provide employees benefits such as such as minimum wage and overtime. Uber and Lyft are backing a referendum on the ballot in November to reverse this rule.

This is going to shut down all Uber and Lyft operations in California. Forcing people to revert back to the more expensive cab companies that will charge much higher prices to cover the overhead. Good job screwing yourselves California!

Oddly, this legislation targets only "contract drivers". As a contract engineer, I had no problem. Oh ya... Taxis are virtually 100% unionized and the unions own the state.

And now we watch two more massive employers pull out of California...

If megaliths can’t afford this or are entiret reluctant out of profit; seeya later. Decentralized rideshare apps are a growing success out of these circumstances.

Another business struggles in CA due to regulation by a government that got economically KO'd by bad policies going back decades. Seems wise. I guess CA has some pretty well established tent cities for those drivers who wont be accepted as employees, as Lyft and Uber tighten their belt under new regulation.
