Breakthrough skin test detects early signs of Parkinson’s disease

As per a study at Iowa State University, scientists have figured out a way to use skin biopsy to identify Parkinson’s disease with a high degree of accuracy. The skin examination detects clumping in alpha-synuclein proteins. Misfolded alpha-synuclein proteins accumulating in the brain are a telltale sign of Parkinson’s. While the study was small, the results bode well for new diagnostic techniques.
