Backers of marijuana legalization tout economic benefits in new election pitch

Supporters of legalizing marijuana are presenting their case to American voters showing the economic benefits of legalizing the drug. They argue legal sales and excise taxes would help states bear the economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic. Democratic Representative Ruben Gallego is a backer of the popular Smart and Safe Arizona Act, which would allow 21+ adults to keep an ounce of marijuana.

Can we just legalize it already so we can get this stupid topic out of the way and move to things that are actually important? Even Copmala Harris smoked weed.

The feds need to legalize this as well as a few others. It hurts the drug cartels, brings revenue and jobs, and allows the feds to go after heroin and fentanyl which are actually killing scores of people.

Yeah they legalize it but put such stringent regulations and hurdles in place that only rich people can get in and even that would've been 5 years ago. Now it's big marijuana conglomerates running everything. More low paying service jobs for us. Yay! Doesn't move the needle economically. Great if your pot guy is unreliable I guess

Weed is legal here in Washington and it's going pretty good for the state. They tax the absolute shit out of it though. Hoping it becomes federally legal, or at the very least out of schedule 1. What I'd really like to see is psilocybin mushrooms become legal/decriminalized/out of schedule 1 so more research can be done with them. There's some emerging evidence that it can help, with the aid of a professional, in dealing with things like PTSD and anxiety.

Illinois legalized it. I have heard of zero farmers even attempting to use it as a cash crop (as I understand it, it is unsustainable to farm without severe nutrient replenishment to even rotate crops). If they knew the state wouldn't be taxing them out the ears we might see a switch. Its too costly and there are no incentives right now for farmers to make the full switch. Curious to see the regulations this state comes up with to push the benefit of switching. I will not be hopeful if the progressive tax illinois is proposing passes.

YES PLEASE!!! Several states have shown massive revenue for the state saving tax payers significant amounts of money, drastically improving the local economy and boosting tourism. There isn’t anything bad about it, what are you going to do? Giggle at cartoons, stop at a green light (probably shouldn’t drive), the only down side is people will get fatter from the munchies but whatever, this is America, we’re already fat!! Lmao

Also, I noticed only one blink is actually about the aggregate summary. Can we get some more in here and get rid of the irrelevant ones?

It should be legal. Your body, your choice. The damned government has no fu c king business interjecting between you and your conscious. The audacity of this farce to have gone on as long as it has is disgusting.

Legalizing cannabis because it’s just a plant is cool and obvious. Legalizing a “drug” because of tax revenue is gross and dumb.

If they actually want to get the taxes from the Marijuana then they need to get rid of the medical card exemption first.

Little facts... ( I've had 3 cards in 3 states and did grow ). Supply and demand people. Colorado's market became so flooded with bud that you couldn't give your weed away. Prices went from 3200 a pound for good hydro down to 1200 sometimes. When everyone can grow in every state and there's basically free weed all over the place it isn't going to be this cash cow in taxes. It'll make money definitely, but no where near what people think. You can by pot very easily in every single state because how much is being produced in the western states like Washington Oregon and California. I think the number one reason to legalize it is to knee cap those liberal dumpster states revenue they are making off selling to us out east.

Switch it up and make green legal and alcohol illegal.

My question is what does a picty of VP Pence voting have to do with this article?

I can't believe we still struggle with this one. Anyone who doesn't think cannabis should be legal, and hasn't tried it, needs to get on it a few times. What a strange substance to make illegal.

It sucks to live in a state where it's legal but then if you lose your job you can't even qualify for a new job for at least a month.

Don't need weed money

This is a really really outdated outmoded fight. Its so old, its gone from dumb to numb. The preparation process is what makes it potent or not. Are you still blowing on your porridge to cool it.
