NASA works to secure the OSIRIS-REx asteroid sample

NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft did its job a little too well on Tuesday when it scooped up a handful of rocks from an asteroid named Bennu. The vehicle grabbed so much material with its robotic arm that the lid is jammed open and they are worried about losing the sample. The plan is to bring them back to Earth to study. They are looking to store the rocks in the belly of the craft.

They never thought, "hey we're spending millions of dollars to get a sample, we should probably make the arm a suitable size so it will never scoop to much of the rocks." That's crazy, at least go through a few extra precautions.

Any publicly funded project is guaranteed for costly engineering overlooking. The U.S. should give most of its NASA budget to SpaceX.
