Japan’s PM says country to go carbon-free by 2050

Japan’s PM Suga, pledged that they would become carbon neutral by 2050, and said responding to climate change is no longer a constraint on economic growth. In his first address to parliament he shared his thoughts that one needs to change their thinking to view that taking assertive measures against climate change will lead to transformation in industrial structure and would boost economic growth.

That's nice but what are we all doing about plastic. Plants eat CO2. Nothing can degrade plastic other than special recycling facilities or a furnace, and we're choking the planet to death on this stuff.

What a disgrace. Unless he means more nuclear energy, in which case, fuck yeah.

Love how these elected officials promise to do something knowing full well they will long gone from office when the hammer drops. Nothing but platitudes to assuage the perpetualy afraid. I’m all for fixing pollution and cleaning up what we can, but don’t go telling me that if we go carbon free (which is impossible) it will somehow convince the climate not to change?

You do realize that Suga will be long dead by the time 2050 rolls around, right? I can say that by 2100 I will invent a low cost way to use cold fusion to generate 100% of the planet's electrical needs. I won't care. I won't be here to listen to all the butt hurt.

It's a step in the right direction.
