AMD to buy Xilinx in all stock deal at $35bn; to own 74% in merged entity

AMD is buying Xilinx for $35bn in an all-stock deal that will combine the two Silicon Valley chip makers. Xilinx shareholders will receive 1.7234 shares of AMD stock for each Xilinx share held , or approximately $143 per share of Xilinx stock. AMD will own about 74% of merged entity, with Xilinx stockholders owning approximately 26%.

Interesting, but also disturbing how much money this involves. I am glad for any additional competition to Intel's dominance but I would rather hope this doesn't drive out any under-dogs in chip manufacturing.
