Scientists simulate soil conditions to help grow plants on Mars

A team of geologists from the Georgia University are figuring out how to use materials already on Mars surface to make crops grow in the red planet. In a study published in the journal Icarus, the team developed artificial soil mixtures that mimic materials found on Mars and evaluated the artificial soil for its fertility. The prospect of a colonized Mars hinges on the ability to grow food there.
