Facebook, Google, Twitter CEOs grilled, berated at congressional hearing

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Google’s Sundar Pichai and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey testified before Congress on Section 230 – a provision in a US law that exempts platforms from legal liability for user-generated content. Republican lawmakers berated and accused them of ’censoring’ President Donald Trump. Zuckerberg said tech companies may censor even more to avoid legal risks if Section 230 is diluted.

Less talk and more action please Congress, revoke their platform status and let them be sued into oblivion

Amen. The 230 protections have to go.

Time to leave all these platforms everyone! Switch Youtube to Bitchute , Patreon to Rokfin, Twitter to Parler, Facebook to Minds dot com, Google to Yandex/ to Tutanota/Protonmail. What else?? Share the platform names and we can begin to promote the switchover list!!! #boycottbigtech

Great theater but Congress won't lift a finger to stop any of it because the majority of lawmakers actually want over the top censorship.

Seems like there are so many people who have no idea of the ramifications of repealing CDA 230. Repeal of it would backfire so bad for Trump because it doesn't mean that Twitter has to host his tweets, it means Twitter is legally liable for his tweets. That would incentivize Twitter to be *more* aggressive with moderating his content in order to comply with all the others laws out there. Section 230 is about providing an open platform free from arbitrary legal liablilities and tort (for Twitter and users). If Twitter's CEO or its shareholders decide they don't want to take on that liability, they can't be compelled to do so, it's their platform.

Republicans whinge they aren't getting special treatment, accuse them of conspiracy and nothing will change. This is more about the GOP playing for attention than affecting change.

Dorsey came off like a lost student from guru school. Zuck was his usual semi-human self. And Pichai tried but the clowns were busy with the other 2.

What individuals with voting rights are allowed to have bias for a candidate in a world that refuses to regulate the billionaires controlling it? Jeez who'd a thought.
