Walter Wallace Jr’s family doesn’t want officers charged with murder

The attorney for Walter Wallace Jr’s kin, Shaka Johnson, said they don’t want murder charges to be slapped on the cops involved in Wallace’s fatal shooting. Johnson gave the reason for the family’s decision as: ’They were improperly trained and didn’t have the proper equipment by which to effectuate their job.’ Wallace was shot 7 times by 2 officers when he refused to drop a knife he was carrying.

So murder would mean that they turned up intending to kill him. Also, tasers don’t always work (especially people on meth/pcp/crack etc) & seconds are the difference between life & death. This is merely malicious prosecution being cheered on by college kids who’ve never dealt with physical violence in their lives.

I'll bet that Johnson attorney sat in a room with that family and told them frankly "well it's pretty cut and dry, Wallace deserved what he got. But! Play the sympathy card and maybe you'll make a killing on GoFundMe or something, I get 25 percent."

The police officers prevented a man from stabbing them with a knife. Job well done from my perspective.

I tend to agree......in a way. The way police are trained, and the fact that there's almost no intervention to prevent these people from ending up with stigmas, this job almost breeds monsters. Cops are our neighbors....average joe's. This is just more of neighbors versus neighbors, while the 1% remain unaffected.

“According to their attorney, Shaka Johnson, the brief 30 to 40 second video put on display the systematic failings of the Philadelphia Police Department who armed the officers with "a tool by which to assassinate" instead of a less lethal device such as a Taser.” “When asked why the family, who has yet to bury Wallace, would not want to pursue murder charges against the two officers who fired seven rounds each into him on Monday, Johnson replied, "Here's why: they were improperly trained and did not have the proper equipment by which to effectuate their job." A very forgiving and thoughtful family immediately after a tragic time in their lives. Kudos to them for recognizing the root cause—lack of tools to intervene and proper training to handle a situation like this. Mental health crisis teams or at least training would help immensely. Having options on an officer’s duty belt that are not lethal would as well. Now lets see if any meaningful actions are taken besides the standard ‘thoughts and prayers’.

Sounds like lawyer talk. Maybe the family knows that family member, and they are ethical people, and not wanting to promote death and destruction. Even people of limited mentalities should understand the consequences of pointing weapons at law enforcers.

Do they want the thugs who are Burning, Looting and Murdering (BLM) prosecuted?

Here is a point of view for stupid people. If a person has deadly force, are you going to use less than lethal, or are you going to be evenly matched?

Pure insanity the cops retreated into the street told him to put the knife down 10 times and I saw the entire video even while in the street they stepped back and he rushed them with a knife. No matter what color you are 100% you rush the cops with a knife you will be shot be my guest and try this

Assassinate??? The cops maybe could of tackled him. Or walked away! Was he deadly, why were the cops called if all was ok?

Kudos to that family but honestly, I’d be hard pressed to think of a different way to have handled that situation. Like it or not knives are lethal weapons and when you have someone advancing on you while weilding one you can’t skimp on effectiveness. A taser hit can be ineffective due to a lot of factors (from baggy clothes to body fat just to name a few). Bullets don’t suffer anywhere near similar limitations.

They weren't trained in the disarmament spell "expelliarmus". Silly officers. Thats a basic spell.

They don't want them charged with murder because they know the officers would be found not guilty and it would come or that their son is not some sort of saint as the left is making him out to be

If the family knew he was mentally disturbed why didn’t they do something about it other than call the cops? Take some responsibility.

When a person is disobeying orders and approching the officer with a knife visable with moments later rushing the officer. Training was done correctly to avoid unnessessary suffering.

So mental illness must run in their family. Was he Michael Myers? 14 shots? Would you shoot an elephant 14 times? Bury these cowards

So they want to increase funding to police?

I'm glad they don't want officers charged, that would be a giant waste of resources. The guy charged the police with a deadly weapon, they responded with deadly force. The rest is legally irrelevant.

I respect this. Hope people listen.

If they were prepared to shoot to kill if the events led to an incapable arrest; especially responders with lack of equipment — that’s awareness of one or the other being a possibility if you are whatsoever coherent of what you are driving towards to respond to.
