Electric yellow schoolbus will try to make ’vehicle to grid’ power work

According to Forbes ’The renewable power grid of the future needs energy storage and lots of it. Many have been attracted to an idea called ’Vehicle to Grid’ (V2G) as a possible solution. The idea is that the giant fleets of electric cars that are coming have tons of spare battery capacity. With the right gear, if they are plugged in when the grid needs power, they can quickly provide that power’

Interesting idea to use electric vehicles' batteries as storage, but imagine going out to your EV car to drive to work, or you're a school bus driver trying to get kids to school on an EV bus, and finding the battery has too little power to get you there... because it was needed to support the grid! Edited for a typo (two vs too)

Cool idea, but not gonna work..like others commented, if the grid drains your batteries then it could leave the bus stranded... Instead, they should put solar grids on the bus' roofs, and use that as a source to power the grid, without taking anything from the actual battery

What a wonderful power grid the future has. So awesome that it doesn't have enough power and needs my cars power to suppliment

This is a horrible idea, the absolute size and weight of those batteries would make the energy expenditure of driving the vehicles insane.

Great idea. Photovoltaics ("pv") is a mature technology, and will be easy to mount on the bus's roof. The "peel and stick" pv (Maxeon and Lumeta Solar) is approxinately 23% efficient and can stay glued down up to 200mph.

So, let me get this straight, local taxes go to charge the busses and then if grid wants that energy back they just take it? I can only imagine the problems that will arise while trying to get our children home in the middle of winter.

I don't want to discourage Americans but Eastern Europe was using electrical busses since like late 50's.

No. One of the massive issues for electric cars right now is batteries and charging. G2V yes. V2G you're a joke.
